The advancement of women across various spheres following the victory of the Islamic Revolution stands as one of the most prominent manifestations of the slogan “Independence, Freedom, Islamic Republic”.

This article examines key aspects of progress, including women’s security, status, diminished foreign dominance, and enhanced participation in economy, science, sports, culture, management, and technology.

Women’s Security

Before the Revolution:
 • Women were subjected to assaults by foreign advisors.
 • There was a lack of judicial response to perpetrators of violence against women.
 • Incidents such as those in Kermanshah and Khorramshahr underscored significant security challenges.

After the Revolution:
 • Women’s rights received strong emphasis in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic.
 • Tehran has been recognized as the safest city for women (according to a police report from 1399).
 • The security of women has notably improved, as highlighted by the global report from Georgetown University (2019).

Women’s Status

Before the Revolution:
 • Women were often used instrumentally in advertisements.
 • According to the World Bank (1354), between 60% and 80% of girls aged 15 to 19 were illiterate.

After the Revolution:
 • There has been a 56% increase in the number of female students in the country’s universities.
 • Illiteracy among women has been eradicated by 99%.
 • The number of female students has increased by 30% compared to their male counterparts.

Decline of American Dominance

Before the Revolution:
 • There were 24,000 American advisors in Iran (1976).
 • The United States maintained a vital presence in the Persian Gulf.
 • The Pahlavi regime exhibited complete subservience to both the United States and the United Kingdom.

After the Revolution:
 • American influence in the region has significantly diminished (The Guardian, 1402).
 • The United States has experienced strategic setbacks in the region (Blinken, 1402).
 • Iran has emerged as a rising global power (Hudson Institute, 1394).

Women’s Participation in Economy and Science

Following the revolution, the participation of women in economic and scientific domains has grown remarkably:
 • There has been a 34% increase in the share of women in university faculties.
 • A total of 2,390 women now serve on the boards of directors of knowledge-based companies.
 • Women hold 44% of executive positions across the country (1401).

Women in Sports and Culture

Iranian women have also made significant strides in sports and culture:
 • There are now 16,000 women’s sports clubs.
 • Iranian women have won more than 3,302 sports medals.
 • The country boasts 9,500 female authors and 840 female publishers.

Management and Technology

In the fields of management and technology, women’s involvement has surged:
 • There has been a 26% increase in the rate of women holding management positions.
 • Women now participate in information technology at a rate of 31%.

The substantial progress achieved in areas such as security, education, economic participation, sports, culture, management, and technology reflects the transformative impact of the Islamic Revolution on the status of women in Iran. These developments not only embody the core values of “Independence, Freedom, Islamic Republic” but also pave the way for continued advancements and greater gender parity in all facets of society.
